She Put Wind in my Sails — 3 Comments

  1. I think Paula chose you for two reasons. She saw something in you as you were being beaten down and didn’t want to loose a good employee with potential. And she didn’t like the fact that you were being beaten and bullied. It wasn’t in her nature, nor in her position as an HR specialist to let it happen. So she offered you an opportunity to move on and up with the company. She saved you and defeated the bully. He saw you move on. My question is, do you know what happened to the bully boss? He’s not alone. There are many of them out there. Insecure, little people, trying to make themselves look good. It often backfires.

    • Roxanne, the tables turned on my former boss – (her, not him). She ended up having a tough time with the senior execs a few years down the road and left the company. I’ve seen that happen a lot. You know what they say, what goes around comes around; treat others as you’d want to be treated (or even better, as they want to be treated). I’m not sure what she’s doing now, but, I wish her well. Her brutal management style taught me to never treat anyone on my team that way. Plus, if I never had her for a boss, I would have never met Paula and would have never considered moving into a career and life changing job. I was lucky, it all worked out very well. However, not everyone is so fortunate.

  2. Unlike Paula, some women thing they have so much to prove and to be heard they go about it the wrong way. If anything, she taught you a very important lesson – how not to treat people.
